Reading List, again

August 13th, 2009 by Diana

A and D in hammockHere are the books I am hoping/planning to finish/start in the next week/month:

The Believers, by Zoe Heller (novel due back at the library in 2 days). “She was still in some shock regarding the servility of motherhood–  the sheer, thankless drudgery of it.  All the cleaning up of messes she  had not made and preparing meals she did not want to eat.”

Mr Wrong: Real-Life Stories About the Men We Used to Love, ed. by Harriet Brown (have already read 1/3 of the stories, including the juicy, page-turning first chapter by my friend, neighbor and writing mentor, Robin Westen)

Passionate Marriage, by David Schnarch (title speaks for itself)

The Comeback, by Emma Gilbey-Keller (got 3/4 way through and put it down, since faced with these impressive working women I got depressed with myself and lack of time/ambition/discipline)

The Magic Years, by Selma Fraiberg (more classic parenting wisdom, a gift from my mom)

5 back issues of Yoga Journal (chock-full of asana information to use in planning classes)

As usual, the most recent New Yorker

And now, due to recent Terrible-Twos parenting challenges, I need to re-read some books I only skimmed in the past:

How to Talk So Kids with Listen and Listen So Kids Will Talk

Siblings Without Rivalry

Comfortable With Uncertainty, by Pema Chodron

How about a week in a cabin in the woods with nothing to do but read and sleep?  A weekend? A single day?
