Yes it was paradise in Vermont last weekend. Golden September sun, deep blue skies, banks of pink phlox and purple asters, and the last pulse of summer’s insects.
A perfect time to pack up the girls and some snacks and drive up to Westminster West to wander through Gordon and Mary Hayward’s exquisite gardens.
Over two acres of landscaped English gardens, filled with flowers, mature trees and shrubs, stonework, mossy pools, bridges, and pathways winding through enchanted glades. My dream gardens– created over 25 years of visionary design and daily hands-on care.
Then there were the puppets. 10 different puppet shows and puppeteers set up in the various magical garden “rooms”, orchards, and fields. I chased the girls down stone paths from one to the next. A liked “Dancing With Horses” best, while C preferred “Anonymous Nonsense” with Little Boy Blue, Mary Mary Quite Contrary, and live music and song. There was Anansi the Spider, a wild dancing bird, and even some potty humor.
A wonderful way to say farewell to Summer.
