Last weekend I got Halloween fever and went to 4 parties and a parade.
This weekend I got a real fever and stayed in bed.
Last weekend I was a wood fairy, accompanied by a pink toddler fairy and a brown deer.
This weekend I was a sad, sick, sneezing Mommy.
Last weekend I ate candy and practiced my pole tricks at the Circus School Halloween Dance party. I danced with Janis Joplin, the Devil, and the cast of the Rocky Horror Picture Show to the pumping beat of DJ Chocolate Malibu.
This weekend I ate raw garlic and drank Emergen-C and ginger tea.
Oh what a difference one week makes. But maybe one thing led to another… Maybe marching in a parade and trick-or-treating in the pouring rain, a drenched, bedraggled fairy sporting wings like wet pantyhose, made me susceptible to getting sick. As did staying out way past my bedtime.
One thing I learned: going out is not as good as I remember. Or, when you’re a tired parent in your 4th decade, going out is not as good as when you were single and 25 and anything was possible.
